The goal is to provide a safe space

The goal is to provide a safe space where girls receive their education while receiving specific care and treatment for the challenges and issues they are struggling with.

The girls referred, accepted, and attending the McNeil Learning Centre come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. The majority of girls experience, but are not limited to, mental health challenges involving anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. Participants struggle with low self-esteem, anorexia, and bulimia, and they lack having positive support systems in place. These consequences manifest and create disruption in their education, home life, peer relationships, and success.

While involved with the McNeil Learning Centre we want the girls to learn, apply and utilize the resources provided to them. We also want them to access staff and assisting supports to help create a successful plan of care that is gender specific, individualized, and realistic for their situation while maintaining the necessary education goals. The hope is to be a leader in the community for girls and their care and treatment. We also want to be an appropriate resource for girls who could benefit from a short or long period of care.
